Interim Offence Declaration for Consecutive Teacher Candidates

An email and form has been sent to Teacher Candidates regarding a process that has been set up for the delays in processing some criminal background checks.   Teacher Candidates whose vulnerable sector screening/police record check is pending (e.g. have applied but haven’t received it yet) have been sent an OESC (Ontario Education Services Corporation) Interim Offence Declaration form to complete and take to their school placement.  The form will allow Teacher Candidates to enter their school placements.  Teacher Candidates are encouraged to read their email for more details.

A note for incoming Teacher Candidates regarding Criminal Reference Checks:

Criminal Record Check

Information Sheet for the Applicant – 2010/11 School Year

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY:

Students that do not have an appropriate criminal background check cannot begin their community or school placement and will be required to make up for days missed OR may become ineligible to complete the program.

All York Faculty of Education students are required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that must include a vulnerable sector screening prior to the commencement of any community placements or school placements. Students should not rely on the OESC website, which is currently suspended.

Your possession of a Criminal Record Check will be verified by a Concurrent BEd Practicum Supervisor or a Consecutive BEd Course Director, in addition to the principals of schools and managers of community organizations. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 6 months of receipt. Any cost related to obtaining the Criminal Record Check is the sole responsibility of the student. Processing times with police services could be quite lengthy depending on their current volume. You should begin the process in June. If you have a school placement within the Peel District School board please note special instructions below.

1. To obtain a Criminal Record Check follow the directions below based on where you live regardless of where your school or community placement is located (police services typically restrict their services to applicants who live in their jurisdictions).

If you have a community or school placement with the Peel District School Board, you must follow the following procedures after obtaining your Criminal Record Check and before commencing your school placement.

Keele ECE – News Update – April 26, 2010 – May 21, 2010

This is a very exciting time for our Teacher Candidates as they begin their final, four week teaching block.

Please be aware of the following expectations for the practicum:

  • TCs are expected to teach 75-100% of the MTs schedule (not including prep)
  • Some TCs may make arrangements to teach subjects that are delivered as part of the MTs prep
  • One Practicum Evaluation Protocol (PEP) should be completed during the course of the practicum
  • Summary Reports should be completed early in the final week of the block
  • TCs should NOT leave their Host Schools without a copy of the Summary Report
  • SCs are responsible for faxing a copy of the Summary Report to York University c/o our Site Administrator, Esther Maciuk.  FAX: 416-736-5890

Please Note TCs have prepared an integrated unit plan to teach during their block and it is assumed that they will be able to implement all or part of this unit during the block. We understand that TCs in Grade 3 and 6 classrooms will need to be flexible in order to accommodate preparations for EQAO Assessments.

A year end Site Coordinators’ Meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, May 20, 2010 from 12:30 – 2:00 pm in the Education Office Conference Room located at 3150 TEL Building, York Campus. A light lunch will be served prior to the meeting.  SCs should park in the Student Services Parking Garage off the Pond Road and bring their parking stub. All practicum partners are welcome to attend. The meeting portion will focus on information pertaining to schools who will be continuing to host ECE TCs next year.

Shaune and Stephen look forward to seeing the TCs and colleagues in partner schools over the coming four weeks.
