Current Students Email
The current students email platform will change from FirstClass to Outlook Web Access.
The change-over is scheduled for August 2009.
The following represents an FAQ of key concerns:
1. Will my email address change?
No. Your existing @edu.yorku.ca email address will remain the same, but will be accessed through the Outlook Web Access service.
2. What will happen to my email messages that are currently stored within FirstClass?
FirstClass will be made available for a period of time to allow current students to copy or print key messages, however, existing email messages will NOT be transferred to the new email system.
Our intention is to offer an additional period of time to allow current users to transfer any desired messages. Our new email system will be live by August 2009. Details on the length of time provided to access your FirstClass archive will be provided shortly.
Procedures for maintaining access to historical FirstClass email will be documented on this website. A setting change is required in your FirstClass client, and supporting information will be made available by June 12th 2009.
It should be noted that after the change-over to the new system, all mail that is intended for your @edu.yorku.ca address will only be accessible through Outlook Web Access.
3. Will I still be able to mail Alumni and faculty members/instructors?
Yes. Current students will have access to the Faculty-wide address book.
4. How will I be able to access the new email system?
The student section of the Faculty of Education website will be re-designed in August 2009, offering links to Education email, Education discussion boards/resource sharing areas and Moodle.
The home page of the Faculty of Education website will have a link to this blog. Please check this blog for updates and login information throughout August.
We will communicate exact changeover dates via your @edu.yorku.ca email address.
5. Do I need to install any software to access my mailbox?
No. You do not need to install any software on your computer to access your education mailbox. Your Outlook-based email will be accessed through a web browser.
